Diving at Dolphins House
Thursday, 19 March
At 7.00 a.m. our trip begins with a one-hour drive to the town of Marsa Alam. Here we board our dive boat and spend another hour at sea before reaching Dolphins House.
Dolphins House is a large reef in the middle of the Red Sea with a protected zone for dolphins that no one is allowed to enter. With a bit of luck, however, the dolphins come to the people themselves.
Dive at the "Dolphin House" Reef near Marsa Alam
After the briefing we descend to 19 m and circle a gigantic coral tower. Then we enter a kind of cave, partially open at the top so that enough light comes in to film. Simply brilliant. After around 10 minutes we pass between several reef pillars and smaller canyons with fantastic visibility. After surfacing we find out that the snorkelling group was lucky enough to swim with the dolphins. Grr.
But we don't let that spoil our mood and look forward to the 2nd dive in the afternoon.
With excellent visibility we spot thousands of glassfish at around 18 m depth, a large green moray eel, and a very large grouper. In short, a superb dive.
For parts of the return journey, a few dolphins accompany us.
