Diving at Marsa Mubarak
Monday, March 16
At 8:30 the upgrade practice operation begins. We head out by boat from Port Ghalib to the dive site Marsa Mubarak.
Marsa Mubarak is a stunning dive spot with fantastic coral towers. There are large numbers of porcupinefish and blue-spotted rays to be seen. The reefs are beautiful and visibility is excellent, despite the heavy swell on this day.
Dive Site Marsa Shoona
Tuesday, March 17
At 9:30 there is a pool practice session for Dany.
After about an hour the exercises are done and I relax by the pool.
After lunch we meet at the dive center and take a minibus about a quarter of an hour to Marsa Shoona, our dive site for this afternoon. The dive starts from the beach. The helpers lay out carpets on which we gear up. We have gorgeous coral reefs to our right. At this site we spot 3 sea turtles, crocodilefish, blue-spotted stingrays, porcupinefish and plenty of other beautiful marine creatures. The dive takes place at depths between 8 and 12 metres.
Snorkeling at the House Reef
Wednesday, March 18
Sleeping in...
After a leisurely breakfast we head down to the beach, happy to have a free day today.
The 26 degrees actually feel warm today – the strong wind had made it feel barely 16 degrees until now.
After a short warm-up we pull on our wetsuits and spend the next 1.5 hours snorkeling to our hearts' content.
Masses of fish, stingrays, porcupinefish, octopuses, lionfish and countless gorgeous corals delight us. On our wetsuit-free trips at midday we also encounter sea turtles, crocodilefish, colourful triggerfish, free-swimming lionfish and many larger unknown fish and creatures under the coral ledges. Simply breathtaking.
At dinner we join Jenny & Dirk and are fortunately reminded that our day trip tomorrow starts at 7:00 AM. We almost missed that... Over a pleasant conversation we round off the day and look forward to the next diving adventure at Dolphin House.
