Encounters that get under your skin: In the Strait of Gibraltar, wild dolphins and whales can be observed almost all year round.

Daily whale watching: From April to October, the research boat of the Swiss foundation firmm heads out daily from the southern Spanish town of Tarifa into the nutrient-rich strait. Four species of dolphins and whales — bottlenose dolphins, common and striped dolphins, and pilot whales — live here year-round. Sperm whales appear between April and July, and fin whales pass through the strait throughout the year. In midsummer, orcas can even be observed hunting tuna. Thanks to 14 years of research, sighting rates stand at 99%.
