Tobago: Caribbean Island Travel Guide

Travel Guide Tobago — Crown Point

Our Highlights for Tobago

Island vacation on Tobago

"Trinidad is nice, Tobago is paradise".
Locals love repeating this saying, so you might as well get used to it. Tobago is the more laid-back, quieter island of the twin-island state.

In our view, Tobago has one of the Caribbean's most stunning beaches: Pigeon Point. The beach and the boat trip to Buccoo Reef and the Nylon Pool are absolute must-dos.

An island tour is equally essential. The island is gloriously green with lush rainforest and astonishing vegetation... but be careful not to taste everything your nature guide offers — some dangerously hot chilies look just like small bell peppers.

Tobago is home to what is likely the world's oldest nature reserve.
Since 1764, the rainforest in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve has been under protection.

Tobago is also a fabulous diving destination!

The southwest is sandy and flat, while the north is rocky and rugged — easily spotted during a drive across the island.

Tobago's highest peak is Pigeon Peak at 576 meters.

Near Crown Point airport, you'll find pubs, restaurants, small hotels and the lovely Store Bay beach.

The capital has the island's central bus station, main post office, tourist information, banks, supermarkets and a market square.

Be sure to visit neighboring Trinidad — check out the La Brea Pitch Lake, a unique natural phenomenon. The Caroni Swamp Bird Sanctuary and its flocks of Scarlet Ibis — Trinidad's national bird — are also a must-see.

Weather, Climate & Best Time to Visit Tobago

Tobago is one of the warmest Caribbean islands. Warm temperatures prevail year-round: 19° to 28°C in winter, 23° to 33°C in summer.

The best months to visit are January through May. From June to December, brief showers occur almost daily but don't last long.

The Most Beautiful Beaches on Tobago

Tobago is famous for its unspoiled dream beaches:

  • Pigeon Point: Tobago's most famous beach with crystal-clear water and the iconic jetty. Entry approx. 20 TT$ (about €3)
