Pigeon Point

Tobago Pigeon Point - Caribbean Paradise with Historic Lighthouse and Dream Beaches

Thursday, October 16th.

We get up an hour later and take an extended swim in the pool in front of our room, giving the breakfast service ladies enough time to get going.

And there you go - bingo. We are greeted warmly and served promptly.
We are slowly adjusting to Caribbean time :-)

Dream Beach Pigeon Point

The hotel shuttle takes us to Pigeon Point today, as Big Liming is on the agenda.

Pigeon Point is Tobago's most beautiful beach. Besides showers, restrooms, boutiques and stalls with local handicrafts, there are also places to eat and drink. Naturally including rum punch and Carib beer.

The beach is famous for its white sand, its turquoise and normally calm waters. It is also well known from many music videos and numerous fashion shoots.

There are also various water sports options right at the beach entrance.

Pigeon Point charges an admission fee if you want to use the offered facilities, but everything is clean and guarded here - ideal for relaxing.
For an extra 10 TT$, you also get a beach chair on the sand.

As a general rule on Tobago - all beaches are publicly accessible - even the private beach Pigeon Point.

Glass Bottom Boat at Buccoo Reef

A snorkeling and glass bottom boat tour to the Coral Garden and Nylon Pool at Buccoo Reef was supposed to be the most strenuous part of the day.

The Buccoo Reef is one of the most famous coral reefs of the southern Antilles. The area covers about 12 hectares and is approximately 10,000 years old.

The Coral Garden is a spot on the reef that features the greatest biodiversity.
There are around 70 fish species and 39 coral species in Buccoo Reef. In some places the reef is so close to the surface that you have to be careful not to hit the bottom while snorkeling. Not only to avoid damaging the corals living here. The reef has been a protected nature reserve since 1973.

The Nylon Pool is a shallow, turquoise-blue sandbank in the reef, which is said to have magical powers. A dip in its waters supposedly makes you feel 10 years younger, the captain tells us.

Extra Divers Tobago

On the way back we stop at Extra Divers Tobago. The base manager Markus Baumgart from Germany greets us warmly and presents the program for the coming days. The dive center makes a good impression on us and we look forward to the upcoming dive excursions, even though unfavorable currents may make one or two dive spots undiveable.

We book a dive trip for the coming Saturday and receive plenty of interesting information about Trinidad & Tobago from Markus, including a phone number for a German tour guide (Trini Harry) on Trinidad.
