Soller Bay on Mallorca

Bahamas — Sailing the Exumas

Sailing the Exumas / Bahamas

Here we report on the Bahamas island of Nassau and 2 weeks of sailing in the Bahamas/Exumas.

We spend 5 days exploring Nassau and then meet Dany and Bernd, the owners of the beautiful sailing yacht Shangri La, at the Harbour Bay Marina.

The next 14 days would become unforgettable for us...

Exumas Itinerary Summary

On March 13, our flight departs from Zurich at 6:20 am. We booked an overnight stay at the IBIS Airport Hotel (very affordable: 1 night plus 14 days of parking with free shuttle service and pickup, approx. EUR 150). The route takes us via London and Miami to Nassau. Total travel time is about 20 hours.

We take a taxi from the airport to Nassau city center for $28 (be sure to agree on the price beforehand!) and check into our Hotel Junkanoo, located on the beach of the same name, near the cruise port and within walking distance of the city center.

Over 5 days we explore Nassau and Paradise Island, where we also spend one night at the famous Atlantis Hotel. When booking an overnight stay, access to the water park is included.

Then we continue with our planned sailing trip through the Exumas/Bahamas on a catamaran departing from Harbour Bay Marina. The owners, Dani and Bernd from Austria, have been traveling with their boat Shangri La for almost 3 years, mostly in the Caribbean. On board we get to know our temporary home for the next 14 days and our two fellow sailors, Dimitri and Caro.

Our last night is spent on Grand Bahama, from where we reluctantly begin our journey home.
