Soller Bay on Mallorca

Nassau to Allens Cay

Sailing the Exumas — Bahamas

At Anchor in Nassau Harbor

Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island

March 17

Our anchorage today is in the entrance to Nassau Harbor. We take the dinghy ashore, go shopping at the Harbour Bay Shopping Mall, surf the internet at Starbucks, and then take a taxi to our favorite beach, Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island (taxi: $12).

Green Parrot — Nassau

Since today is St. Patrick's Day, we take a taxi in the evening to the Green Parrot — a cool bar at the harbor with a view of the Atlantis Hotel, serving food with a bar scene and today featuring live music and a party atmosphere! Things got merry... and late :-)

Under Sail from Nassau to Allens Cay

Bye Bye Nassau

March 18

Today we weigh anchor at 9:00 AM and set off toward the Exumas despite the forecast of bad weather. I get to steer the catamaran, the Shangri La, with Bernd's assistance out of the harbor area, and the hours at sea fly by.

Allens Cay

The crossing to Allens Cay, our anchorage for the night, takes about 8 hours through some pretty rough seas. Many boats gather in this sheltered bay for the night. Here we visit the unique Exuma iguanas, an endangered species found only on these islands. After dropping anchor, Bernd serves us a delicious sundowner before ferrying us to the island. We feed the iguanas with our fruit scraps — they're already waiting on the beach and even jump up to grab the food. Be careful with your fingers and use a stick to hand over the treats!

To round off the day, Dani serves us a lovely dinner and a few cool drinks...
