Attractions on St. Vincent — West Coast

Botanical Garden of Kingstown

The Botanical Garden, established in 1765, is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. Besides numerous tropical plants, you can spot the rare St. Vincent Amazon — the island's national parrot.

Fort Charlotte — St. Vincent

Fort Charlotte (1806) still houses the island's women's prison.
On a clear day, the views stretch across the Grenadines to Grenada, with a stunning panorama of Kingstown. The fort also served as a filming location for "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Layou Petroglyph Park — Carib Rock Carvings

The Layou Petroglyph Park houses rock carvings by the Carib Indians whose meaning remains unknown. There's a natural pool for a refreshing dip.

Vermont Nature Trail

The roughly 3 km winding Vermont Nature Trail leads through rainforest. Perfect for birdwatchers, hikers and nature lovers. With luck, spot the rare St. Vincent Amazon. Bridges, viewpoints, shop and restrooms available.

Wallilabou Bay

The now-famous Wallilabou Bay — several "Pirates of the Caribbean" scenes were filmed here. Many original movie sets still stand, though time has taken its toll.

Dark View Falls

Further north, reach the Dark View Falls via a rainforest trail and suspension bridge. A refreshing natural shower and massage. Changing facilities at the parking lot.

Trinity Falls

A bit further north of Dark View Falls, you'll reach Trinity Falls.

Soufriere Mountains

In the north of St. Vincent lie the Soufriere Mountains (up to 1,220 m). The La Soufrière Volcano Trails are excellent for hikers. The crater is only reachable on foot — no roads around the mountain. Trails start at Richmond Beach (west) or Waterloo (east).

Arawak Rock Carvings

Mesopotamia Valley / Marriaqua Valley

Here you'll find the Montreal Gardens. Nearly every tropical plant thrives in these fertile soils. A wonderful viewpoint overlooks the island's breadbasket — bananas, nutmeg, cocoa, breadfruit and coconut.

Several streams converge before tumbling over the rocks of Yambou gorge near Mesopotamia ("Mespo").

Montreal Gardens

The Montreal Gardens are located northeast of Kingstown in the Mesopotamia Valley.

Black Point Tunnel

The Black Point Tunnel was built in 1815. Slaves carved the 100-meter tunnel through solid rock to transport sugarcane from Grand Sable to Byera Bay.

Also a "Pirates of the Caribbean" filming location.

Owia Salt Point

Owia Salt Point lies in the northeast near the Carib settlement of Owia. About 2 hours' drive along the beautiful east coast, passing the Rabacca Dry River (ash from the 1902 La Soufrière eruption), Black Point Tunnel and some of the world's most stunning black sand beaches.
