On the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street
7 April
We get up early, grab something to eat and start with a visit to the Venetian hotel, with its faithful reproductions of Venice — gondolas, sights and countless shopping stores. As we step inside we are overwhelmed by the perfect illusion of strolling through the streets of Venice just after sunset.
We then visit a shopping centre or two, the Mirage — which became world-famous for the white tiger show with Siegfried and Roy (though performances have stopped since Roy's accident) — and the Treasure Island hotel.
Towards the afternoon we go shopping at the outlet malls, of which Las Vegas has two with over 140 shops each.
Fremont Street Experience
The highlight of the day is the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. We especially love the vintage neon lights, the street performances and the absolute showstopper: the LED light show with music stretching the entire length of the street — a must when visiting Las Vegas. After this experience we head back to our hotel and walk along the Strip, taking in the world-famous hotels such as New York New York, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, Paris, MGM and more. It is a very long walk, though you can also cover it by monorail, which runs parallel to the Strip.
