Ile aux Cerfs & East Coast of Mauritius
April 28 - Day Trip No. 6
Today we start very early as we want to visit the island of Ile aux Cerfs. To get there, we first have to cross Mauritius heading east. We drive through seemingly endless sugarcane fields and many small villages. Our first stop is near Bel Air at the Hindu temple Siva Soopramaniar Kovil.
Boat Tour to Grand Riviere Sud Est Waterfall
We continue to Grand Riviere South East, where we hire a boat with a boatman at the dock to reach the Grand Riviere Sud Est waterfalls. The boat takes you upriver right to the foot of the falls. Our boat tour then takes us to Ile aux Cerfs. Fortunately, we arrive 2 hours before the numerous catamarans and can enjoy the island in peace.
Ile aux Cerfs
On Ile aux Cerfs you can play golf, take advantage of numerous water sports activities or simply swim and go snorkeling. There are also great beach bars, restaurants and washrooms. In sunshine, the island's beaches are a true feast for the eyes.
As agreed, our taxi boat picks us up at 3 pm. The private tour cost around 40 euros. Of course, you can also book the tour with a speedboat or catamaran including barbecue. For us, a visit to Ile aux Cerfs is an absolute must for Mauritius visitors.
After our island excursion, we drive along the east coast further north. From Trou d'Eau Douce the ferry goes to Ile aux Cerfs (every half hour). Here we stop at a ruin and enjoy the view of the coastline.
Further along our tour, we pass numerous luxury hotels and beautiful beaches before reaching the Hindu temple complex Sagar Shiv Mandir. The complex is located on the water at Poste de Flac and can only be reached via a bridge.
A wonderful day trip on Mauritius comes to an end. Now it's back to Flic-en-Flac through the ever-increasing traffic. The return journey takes about an hour.
