A Dive Day in Northern Mahé

Dive Day on Mahé

Thursday, October 7th

At 9 am we start setting up our dive gear at Ocean Dream Divers in their dive center. The center is located in the northern part of Mahé island in Beau Vallon.

The center is small and family-run – we feel at home right away. We had already been in email contact with Holger beforehand and even got a great deal on a jeep rental through the dive center. Communication was in German, which is probably why we found quite a few German divers there.
The center is run by Christine and Mike.
After setting up our equipment, we board the boat with 8 divers plus a guide. After 25 minutes we reach the first dive site.

1st Dive: Dragon Teeth

Free descent to 20 meters, then we slowly approach a large rock formation called Dragon Teeth. We spot 4 different species of rays, along with grouper, barracudas, triggerfish, lobsters, and many other typical inhabitants of the Indian Ocean. After a good 37 minutes our air is used up and we head to the next dive site.

2nd Dive: Brissare Rocks

At the second dive site, several whitetip reef sharks await us at 15 meters depth, along with a giant moray eel, eagle rays, glassfish, various species of starfish, diverse coral formations, and a relaxing drift dive.

Afternoon at Beau Vallon Beach

We spend the afternoon with a few very friendly divers at Beau Vallon Beach across from the dive center.

Christine even drove us back to our guesthouse in the late afternoon, a good half hour away – what amazing service.
