Island Tour Praslin & Anse Lazio

Island Tour on Praslin

Friday, October 15

Today we set out on an entertaining island tour, as far as one can say that. In the north, there is no connection between the eastern and western parts of Praslin. We begin in the northwest of Praslin at the Lemuria Resort. After registering in advance, you can cross the golf course and reach the beautiful beach Anse Volbert. From a small side road inland, you have a lovely view of the bay at St. Maries Point.

Pearl Farm Praslin

Then we head south to the pearl farm. It is the only pearl farm in the Seychelles. They primarily cultivate black pearls, similar to those from the South Pacific. For SR 50 per person, you can take a guided tour of the farm and learn about pearl cultivation. I was surprised by the quality of the pearls, since not even our pearl dealer knew about the farm's existence. None of the pearls are exported — they are only sold here directly to customers.

Opening hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM — closed on Sundays

The South of Praslin

Then we continue south past Grand Anse, Anse Bateau, Anse Takamaka and round the southern tip. Along the way, we take photos of some of the beautiful beaches. Then we head north again, passing the Jetty (ferry terminal) at Baie Ste. Anne, Anse Volbert and Curieuse Bay all the way to Anse Lazio.

At Anse Lazio

Today there are particularly many stingrays lying in the shallow sandy waters at Anse Lazio. Quite dangerous for swimmers without goggles, as they rest at just one meter depth and there are several dozen of them. When we ask around, we learn that this has only been the case since the 2004 tsunami, and that the rays now appear in shallow water all around the island. Anse Lazio can also boast of being ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Departure from Praslin

Saturday, October 16

We spend today at the beach in front of our guesthouse again. Unfortunately, it's time to leave, so on this quiet day in the shallow bay of Grand Anse, we don't make any big waves. In the shallow water, we watch a baby shark searching for food for quite a while.

At the airport, we run into about 20 fellow travelers we had met during the trip. At 11:10 PM, our Condor flight takes off for Frankfurt.

THE END
