Annandale Falls
Annandale Falls is located about 20 minutes from St George's. It's best to visit when no cruise ship is docked in the harbor, as the area around this 9-meter waterfall quickly fills up with vendors and tourists. The falls are set in beautifully landscaped grounds with a variety of herbs and tropical plants.
Grand Etang National Park
The road continues up into the rainforest to Grand Etang National Park, where you can visit the Visitor Center (admission US$2). A trail leads in about 15 minutes to a viewing platform with a stunning panorama of the east coast and the Grand Etang Crater Lake. You may be lucky enough to encounter capuchin monkeys here, who will curiously approach you. For hikers, there is a 90-minute loop trail around the lake as well as the Mount Qua Qua Trail (approx. 3 hours).
Leapers Hill — Morne de Sauteurs
If time is short, you can head straight to Sauteurs in the north. If you have time, it's well worth stopping at the River Antoine Rum Distillery along the way — it has been in operation since 1785 and has barely changed to this day.
A brief stop at Caribs Leap — Leapers Hill is worthwhile. According to legend, the last Caribs took their own lives here in 1651 to escape slavery, though this account has since been disputed.
Levera National Park
A little further east lies Levera Pond, a crater lake that can be walked around in about an hour. Unfortunately, a large luxury hotel development is planned for this idyllic spot.
At Levera Beach we enjoy the glorious sunshine. This is where the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea meet. Along this 1 km stretch of sand, the rare leatherback sea turtle nests — sadly, locals sometimes illegally dig up the eggs for consumption.
On the way to Levera Bay, you'll find the lovely Bathway Beach, perfect for swimming.
