Le Moule & Plage de l'Autre Bord
October 2
We start the day with coffee, bacon and eggs at our own stove and of course with baguette, to have at least a bit of French flair.
We head to the rum factory Damoiseau near Le Moule in the east of Grande-Terre. Unfortunately the factory and tasting room are mostly closed, so we can only take photos in the outer area. The rum shop is open though and we buy a 6-year-old aged rum.
In Le Moule we check out a viewpoint at the beach and the town center before continuing to the nearby Plage de l'Autre Bord.
Port d'Enfer & Anse a la Gourde
We continue to Port d'Enfer (Hell's Gate), which today looks more like a calm bay due to the very quiet sea.
On the way back to southern Grande-Terre, we stop at the beautiful Maison Zevallos, a colonial villa that unfortunately doesn't reopen until 2:00 PM. The muggy 32C drives us straight to the next beach, Anse a la Gourde, at the southeastern tip of Grande-Terre.
Here we "cool off" at a water temperature of 27C and enjoy the magnificent beach.
Petite Havre & Bois Joli
October 3
After a long breakfast we rally ourselves and drive along the D 105 up a hill in the hinterland. The view is decent but nothing special, so we head straight back to the coast to Petite Havre. The bay is a spot for surfers and snorkelers. In a travel guide we once read that there are even baby sharks here. Unfortunately we couldn't spot any. Afterwards we visit the beach in Sainte-Anne and enjoy another delicious hand-churned Sorbet de Coco - yummy!
We end the evening at a bar on the beach with Pina Colada and a Leffe. Here the bar's floor is the beach itself.
