Pointe-a-Pitre Sightseeing
October 6
Plage de Bananiers & Trois-Rivieres
Coffee at the Kontiki Bar on the beach of Sainte-Anne. The bar has a great ambiance but in the off-season unfortunately closes at 7:00 PM.
At Pointe-a-Pitre we visit Fort Fleur de'Epee before heading into the city center to the Musee Schoelcher, the market square, Peter and Paul Church and Place de Victoire with many beautiful colonial buildings.
Goyave
We leave the hectic hustle and bustle quickly heading towards Basse-Terre. At Goyave we check out the Plage de Ste-Claire and are glad we didn't book accommodation here. All kinds of driftwood and rotting seaweed has accumulated. Perhaps they clean up before the season starts...
Capesterre-Belle-Eau & Plage de Bananiers
October 6
Just south of Capesterre-Belle-Eau we visit the Habitation Bois Debout. The grounds are a large banana plantation with a stately manor.
Then a detour to the palm-lined avenue Allee Dumanoir.
Break at Plage de Bananiers with black sand just off the main road.
Trois-Rivieres
In Trois-Rivieres we ask at the harbor about crossings to Marie-Galante and buy a one-year-valid advance ticket from CTM Deher for EUR 18.00 instead of 22.00. In the coupon booklets there's often a reduction to EUR 20.00.
Saint-Claude & Soufriere
Now we head into the mountains, specifically to St.-Claude and our next accommodation, Bananes Vertes. A beautiful, nature-inspired resort with pool and whirlpool.
The perfect base for climbing the active volcano Soufriere.
Nearby there's also a waterfall, and Trois-Rivieres is only about 6 km away.
Bananes Vertes Bungalows & Tours
...is a wonderfully designed bungalow/cabin resort with whirlpool and pool. The wooden cabins are all largely open-air - no window glass here. Charge up on fresh air! ...truly in nature.
Our hosts at Bananes Vertes also offer hiking and canyoning tours (between EUR 45.00 and EUR 70.00 depending on difficulty level).
