Soller Bay on Mallorca

Diving Bequia and Southern Bequia

Diving off Bequia

April 16

At 9 a.m. the boat from Bequia Divers picks us up at our beach, Lower Bay, and we head straight to our first dive spot. By 1 p.m. we are back at the dive base and pay US$106 for two dives including all equipment. A small but excellent dive center run by an Englishwoman. Right next door there are two more dive centers.

The South of Bequia

At noon we rent a scooter in the center of Port Elizabeth from Handy Andy. Starting at US$40 per day (US$20 per hour or US$30 for half a day) — a bit rickety, but if you ride according to road conditions you get through and can climb the steepest hills.

Friendship Bay

We ride the scooter through Belmont to the Beach Hotel at Friendship Bay. The beautiful, long sandy beach invites a swimming break. From above the beach you have a lovely view of the offshore islands.

Whaling Museum

A few kilometers further we stop at the small whaling museum, the Whaling Museum near Paget Farm. Here you can see old whaling equipment for a voluntary admission fee and learn about the history of whaling on Bequia.

Southwest Tip of Bequia

We continue towards James F. Mitchell Airport until we reach a ruin and an old cemetery nearby. A bit further west lies the curious Moonhole settlement, which can only be visited by prior arrangement. Unfortunately we have none and turn around, as there is hardly any road left here anyway.

We end the evening at a restaurant in Port Elizabeth, watching a gorgeous sunset.
