Stingray City — Grand Cayman

George Town — Grand Cayman

Wednesday, March 14th: From 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM we're docked at George TownGrand Cayman
(8:30 – 11:45 AM Stingray City)

Today we're up early. Breakfast at 7:00 AM. Since we have to take a tender boat ashore here, it's best to go early before the crowds arrive.

Unfortunately the snorkeling excursion is cancelled, so we head straight to Stingray City. A bus takes us through George Town to the marina. From there, a speedboat whisks us past incredible mansions until we reach the inner reef after about 30 minutes.

Stingray City

The sight is breathtaking. Everywhere you look, dark stingrays glide across the bright sand of this shallow spot in the middle of the ocean. A quick deep breath, then it's time to grab the snorkel and jump in. It's an incredible feeling to get up close with the stingrays. They swim around us constantly, gently bumping into us. Every now and then we feel their rough, barbed tails brush against our legs. We feed them squid, which they eagerly snatch from our hands.

All Hell Breaks Loose in George Town

Back in George Town, we can hardly believe our eyes. In the meantime, seven more cruise ships have docked and their passengers are flooding the little town that was still so peaceful early this morning.

Back to the Ship

We stroll through the crowds in the narrow streets for a little while, then beat a hasty retreat. The prices here are also very steep.

We make it back to our ship sooner than expected and unwind with a round of mini golf.
